These pictures show Avro Vulcan XH558 at the Farnborough International Air Show on Sunday 20 July 2008.
XH558 made her first flight in restoration in October 2007, and was granted an official "Permit to Fly" in July 2008, just in time to display at the Waddington International Airshow on 5 July.
Unfortunately, her next scheduled displays were curtailed by an electrical fault on 6 July, and the raining off of the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford the following weekend.
XH558 did display at Farnborough, which is where I saw a Vulcan back in the skies for the first time in fifteen years. It was a pity the sky couldn't have stayed blue for the flight, but at least it stayed dry!
It was an atmospheric moment when the Vulcan howled down the runway and lifted into the air accompanied by a round of applause from the gathered crowd.
